Outpatient Services (OPS) provides an array of mental
health services designed to help adult residents of Sedgwick County (age
18 and older) improve their quality of life. A strong emphasis is placed
on helping clients and their families avoid the need for more intensive
and expensive treatment. It is estimated that close to 80% of mental
health issues respond well to treatment (National Institute of Mental
Health). The professionals at OPS strive to help individuals identify
their treatment goals to try and help people function at his/her highest
level. Treatment is based on a collaborative model where the client is
viewed as an integral part of the process, including participation with
staff in the development of measurable treatment goals and outcomes that
guide treatment.
Outpatient Therapy Clinic
Services offered through the Outpatient Therapy Clinic include
individual and group therapy for a wide variety of emotional illnesses
or concerns. Issues addressed in treatment range from severe and
persistent mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and major depression
to an individual’s experience of anxiety, depression or life adjustment
issues that might include divorce, deterioration of health, or grief.
The length of services is determined by clinical necessity and can range
from time-limited sessions to more extensive treatment for persistent
mental health concerns.
Stress/Anger Management
COMCARE offers a 12-week educational group for persons who have a legal
obligation for domestic violence. This group is offered throughout the
year and is paid for by the individual and is not covered by insurance.
Case Management
COMCARE’s Outpatient Services also provides non-traditional, short-term,
goal-directed case management support to clients. These services are
available to individuals whose emotional well being may be having a
negative impact in other areas of their life.
Outpatient Medical Clinic
Psychiatric services are available and may include evaluation or follow
up regarding the need for mental health related medications. Medical
staff at Outpatient Services includes Psychiatrists, Advanced Registered
Nurse Practitioners, and Registered Nurses. Additionally, COMCARE
employs staff members who can assist clients in need, to access
medication assistance through a variety of Patient Assistance Programs.
