Senior Expo 2008 "Give Our Regards to Broadway"

“Give Our Regards to Broadway”

Sedgwick County Department on Aging and Central Plains Area Agency on Aging present Senior Expo 2008 “Give Our Regards to Broadway.”  Senior Expo provides opportunities for education, health screenings, socialization and fun for seniors in our community.

Senior Expo festivities kick off with a gala on September 24.  Attendees will dance the evening away to the live music of The Tim Henry Band and enjoy hors d’oeuvres at the Wichita Scottish Rite located at 332 E. 1st street, Wichita from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Admission is free to adults age 55 and older.

Senior Expo takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 25, at four locations in Wichita.  Participating venues include Botanica, The Wichita Gardens; Exploration Place; Old Cowtown Museum; and The Wichita Art Museum.  Entrance to Senior Expo and admission to the museums are FREE to anyone age 55 and older and their caregivers!  Senior Expo attendees may access “Our Body, The Universe Within” for a reduced rate of $16.95 per person.

Mill Levy Funds

The Sedgwick County Department on Aging intends to fund various Aging and Physical Disability programs for fiscal year 2009 (January 1, 2009 - December 31, 2009). Programs currently funded include in-home and community services that enhance independence and ability to remain in the community. To be considered for funding, the application below must be received no later than Noon on Friday, September 19, 2008. For more information, contact Stacy Nilles at (316) 660-5230 (Aging) or Valerhy Powers at (316) 660-5158 (Physical Disability).

RSVP Links adults 55 and older with volunteer opportunities in their community.  The Sedgwick County Department on Aging's RSVP program offers a wide range of challenging and exciting volunteer experiences.  For information on volunteer opportunities visit Volunteer Opportunities.


Smoke AlarmFREE Smoke Detectors for Seniors

Sedgwick County Department on Aging / Central Plains Area Agency on Aging Minor Home Repair program was awarded the Kansas Injury and Fire Prevention Program grant from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The grant will allow for 10 year lithium battery operated smoke alarms, and hard wired hearing impaired alarms. We have partnered with the City of Wichita, and volunteers to educated seniors of potential fire hazards in their homes and to provide them with adequate smoke alarm coverage.

  • Must be 65 years of age and older

  • Reside in Wichita

  • Homeowner or live with Homeowner

If interested, applications can be picked up at your local Neighborhood City Hall or by contacting Neola at 660-5128.
