Sedgwick County Code Enforcement represents building permitting and inspections, zoning and nuisance inspections, floodplain permitting and determination, and waste water (septic/lagoon) permitting and inspections for Sedgwick County.  The department issues building permits in the unincorporated areas of the county; licenses trade’s people; reviews’ building plans; inspects new construction for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes; and furnishes zoning and subdivision information to citizens, realtors, appraisers and contractors.

IMPORTANT 2012 RENEWAL NOTICE

All Sedgwick County trade contractors’ licenses expire December 31, 2011 and must be renewed by March 1, 2012.

Please click on the below links for the appropriate renewal forms & return all forms contained in each link to our office no later than March 1, 2011 to avoid lapse of license and late fees.

Please remember that in order to renew a trade contractor license, the master on file for the company must also renew their trade certificate

This is a two-year renewal. The fee schedule is as follows:

Electrical/mechanical/plumbing contractor’s licenses - $200.00

Electrical/mechanical/plumbing trade certificates - $20.00

Lagoon Maintenance

Proper lagoon maintenance can be an important part of home ownership in rural parts of Sedgwick County, as more than 50 percent of homes in this area rely on lagoons for waste disposal.  Improperly maintained lagoons can be odorous and costly to repair.  Click here to watch a video about proper lagoon maintenance.  Click here to read a text version of this video.

Property Title Transfer Inspections

On May 18, 2006, Sedgwick County passed a Property Title Transfer Inspection Resolution. This resolution requires that any real estate in the unincorporated area of Sedgwick County that is served by a water well and/or onsite wastewater system must have those inspected before the property transfers ownership.
