Sedgwick County Code Enforcement represents building permitting and inspections, zoning and nuisance inspections, floodplain permitting and determination, and waste water (septic/lagoon) permitting and inspections for Sedgwick County. The Department issues building permits in the unincorporated areas of the county; licenses trade’s people; reviews’ building plans; inspects new construction for compliance with building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical codes; and furnishes zoning and subdivision information to citizens, realtors, appraisers and contractors.

Lagoon Maintenance
Proper lagoon maintenance can be an important part of home ownership in rural parts of Sedgwick County, as more than 50 percent of homes in this area rely on lagoons for waste disposal. Sedgwick County License and Certificate Renewal
Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing contractors, Master and Journeyman certificate holders, certificates and licenses expire December 31, 2009 and must be renewed by March 1, 2010. All forms are available below or you may call Sedgwick County Code Enforcement to request forms. We can email, fax or US mail the forms to you or you may come to our office at 1144 S, Seneca, Wichita, Ks. 8:00 – 4:00.
All certificate renewals must have 12 hours continuing education. This is a two year renewal. Contractor Licenses - $200, Certificates - $20. Call Code Enforcement at 316-660-1840 if you have questions.

Property Title Transfer Inspections
On May 18, 2006, Sedgwick County passed a Property Title Transfer Inspection Resolution. This resolution requires that any real estate in the unincorporated area of Sedgwick County that is served by a water well and/or onsite wastewater system must have those inspected before the property transfers ownership.

Floodplain Management Taskforce Final Report - December 2005
The Floodplain Management Taskforce was formed in
January 2005 with a charge to evaluate current policy
and practice of regulating development within
floodplains and to make recommendations of any needed
change in policy and practice to the Sedgwick County
Board of Commissioners and Wichita City Council.
Concerns regarding development within floodplains and
the reduction of present and future flood hazards were
incorporated into recommendations. Business,
environmental, and neighborhood interests were taken
into account. The Taskforce has identified, discussed
and developed recommendations and is recommending that
the Wichita City Council and the Sedgwick Board of
County Commissioners accept the
Floodplain
Management Taskforce Final Report

work together to move the Report's recommendations
forward.
