Established on September 21, 1983 by BOCC in Res. 249-1983 which was repealed by Res. 16-1987. In 2011, the physical disabilities component was administratively added into the purview of the council. Res. 165-2018 on November 28, 2018 re-established the council as the Sedgwick County Advisory Council on Aging and Physical Disabilities (Sedgwick County Code Article VI, Division 2, Sec. 2-161 – Sec. 2-165).

The Board of County Commissioners established the Animal Care Advisory Board pursuant to Resolution No. 83-1982 on March 24, 1982, which was later repealed by and replaced with Resolution No. 17-1987 on February 4, 1987. Resolution No. 51-2014 adopted on April 16, 2014 dissolved the Animal Care Advisory Board and established the Animal Control Advisory Board. However, on January 21, 2015, Resolution 4-2015 rescinded Resolution No. 51-2014 dissolving the Animal Control Advisory Board and re-establishing the Animal Care Advisory Board and re-instating in full effect all provisions that were previously modified or repealed by Resolution No. 51-2014. This board is currently governed by Resolution Nos. 17-1987 and 4-2015. (Sedgwick County Code Chapter 5, Article II, Division 2, § 5-51 - § 5-55).

The Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (“MABCD”) is a consolidated entity created by the Board of County Commissioners of Sedgwick County (“County”) and City of Wichita City Council (“City”) pursuant to Resolution 135-2012 on August 29, 2012.  In addition, Resolution 135-2012, 175-2012, 157-2014, and 144-2016 allows for the creation and operation of consolidated trade boards for: 1)   building code and standards and appeals; 2)   electrical standards and appeals; 3)   mechanical standards and appeals; and 4)   plumbing standards and appeals.   On August 21, 2019 the Board of County Commissioners of Sedgwick County adopted Resolution 196-2019 which amended the composition of the plumbing board and increased its membership to nine (9) members.

The Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC) was created by the Board of County Commissioners by Resolution No. 10-2004 and was amended by Resolution No. 75-2009. Resolution 172-2009 amended Resolution No. 75-2009. On November 1, 2017 Resolution No. 182-2017 rescinded Resolution No. 172-2009 and amended Resolution 10-2004. The First District Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the Board of County Commissioners on May 19, 2021 pursuant to Resolution 131-2021. Subsequently, Resolution 131-2021 was amended on October 21, 2021 by Resolution 224-2021 modifying board composition to allow owners of businesses located in the First County Commission District to serve on the Citizens’ Advisory Board. On November 16, 2022, Resolution 131-2021 was again amended by Resolution 178-2022 modifying board composition to not less than seven (7) and not more than twelve (12) so that one member of the CAB will be a high school student.

The Second District Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the Board of County Commissioners on January 20, 2021 pursuant to Resolution 22-2021. On October 11, 2023, Resolution 22-2021 was amended by Resolution 231-2023, modifying the number of board members so that at least one member of the CAB will be a high school student.

The Third District Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the Board of County Commissioners (“BOCC”) pursuant to Resolution 22-2017 on February 15, 2017 and subsequently amended by Resolution Nos. 48-2017 and 20-2020 which modified board membership and composition to twelve (12) members and adding a student position, respectively.  On November 3, 2021, the BOCC adopted resolution 228-2021 modifying board membership to allow business owners of businesses located in Third County Commission District to serve on the Citizens’ Advisory Board.

The Fourth District Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the Board of County Commissioners on March 13, 2019 pursuant to Resolution 55-2019. Resolution 55-2019 was amended on September 2, 2020 by Resolution 117-2020, modifying the number of board members to not less than seven (7) and not more than twelve (12) so that at least one member of the CAB will be a high school student. The Board of County Commissioners approved Resolution 63-2023 on April 5, 2023 to modify CAB's meeting and procedure schedule and Resolution 163-2023 on July 19, 2023 to modify board composition, quorum, selection, terms, meeting and procedures, as well as officers and sub-committees.

The Fifth District Citizens Advisory Board (CAB) was established by the Board of County Commissioners on December 9, 2020 pursuant to Resolution 170-2020. The resolution proposed the CAB to be comprised of not less than seven (7) and not more than eleven (11) members.

The Board was established in 1974 with Res. 27-1974 and is currently governed by Res. No. 218-2019, the Sedgwick County Fire Code, 2019 Edition, § 109.

This board was created by BOCC, Res. 197-1986 on September 3, 1986 and is currently governed by Res. 41-1987, K.S.A. 19-4002a and Sedg. County Code §14-111, et seq. The board title was revised by Res. 137-2015.

The Board of County Commissioners entered into an inter-local agreement with the City of Wichita on March 16, 2017. The LETC Joint Board adopted its by-laws at a meeting held on March 13, 2018 and revised September 11, 2018.

Created by the Board of County Commissioners pursuant to K.S.A 19-4002a and Resolution No. 199-1986 on September 3, 1986. Resolution 199-1986 was amended by Resolution No. 40-1987 on February 18, 1987. Resolution 137-2001 rescinded Resolution 40-1987 on August 22, 2001. Resolution 46-2016 (currently in effect) rescinded Resolution No. 137-2001, and modified the membership to eliminate the two At Large member positions, reducing the number of appointees to fifteen (15). See Sedg. County Code sec. 14-76 to 14-78.

The Metropolitan Area Planning Commission (MAPC) was originally created in 1958. The MAPC and appointments to the MAPC are currently governed by an inter-local agreement entered into between Sedgwick County and the City of Wichita on November 17, 2016, pursuant to Joint Resolution 127-2016 and Ordinance 50-316. On January 30, 2019, the inter-local agreement was amended, pursuant to Joint Resolution 13-2019 and Ordinance 50-929. The first amendment to Inter-local agreement supersedes and replaces any prior ordinance and resolution; and currently governs the MAPC board. (Sedgwick County Code § 21-26)

The Sedgwick County Nuisance Appeals Board was created by the Board of County Commissioners of Sedgwick County (“County”) on March 2, 2022 pursuant to Resolution 33-2022.

Created by the Board of County Commission (BOCC) in 1980, Res. 119-1980 and K.S.,A. 75-5297 with regards to membership, qualifications, and appointments, and K.S. A. 75-5298 regarding terms, vacancies, etc. Res. 158-2009 amended the number of members and K.S.A. Supp. 75-5297 amended some wording as to membership, qualifications, and appointments. See Sedgwick County Code Chapter 16, Article II, Division 2, S16-37.

The Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners, pursuant to Resolution 17-2024, established the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board on February 7, 2024.

Pursuant to Resolution 913-2022, the Steering Council was created by the Board of County Commissioners sitting as the governing body for the Sedgwick County Fire District Number One.

This Board was established by the BoCC, Res. 236-1976 on November 24, 1976 and amended on December 13, 2017, pursuant to Resolution 200-2017. See also Sedgwick County Personnel Policy 4.502.

This board was created by the BOCC in 1999 pursuant to Resolution No. 7-1999 and to K.S.A. 75-7044 and 75-7045. Resolution 7-1999 was amended by Resolution No. 164-2004 on September 15, 2004. Resolution 102-2016 modified Chapter 16 of the County Code on July 6, 2016 by adding one appointed position, a Juvenile Defense Attorney, to be selected by the judge of the District Court who is assigned the Juvenile Court Docket. On November 18, 2020, Resolution 163-2020 modified Chapter 16 of the County Code to reflect revisions to the board membership. On July 14, 2021, Resolution 152-2021 modified Chapter 16 of the County Code to reflect revisions to the membership by including a youth position between the ages of 16 and 23, with priority given to a youth who has had system involvement with correctional services.

Established by the Board of County Commissioners pursuant to Resolution 6-2022 adopted January 12, 2022. Previous Resolution 269-1996 was repealed in its entirety.

The Solid Waste Management Committee was created in 1996, pursuant to Resolution 216-1996 and K.S.A. 65-3405. Board membership and composition were subsequently amended by Resolution 157-2001, 275-2003, 31-2012 and 27-2022.

Created pursuant to state statute in 1969, K.S.A.. §19-4303 et seq. Modified by Charter Resolution No. 25 in 1979, which was rescinded by Charter Resolution No. 52 in 1997. In 2008, Charter Resolution No 52 was rescinded by Charter Resolution No. 60, exempting the County from the provisions of K.S.A. 19-4306, 19-4307, 19-4309, 19-4311, 19-4314, 19-4316, 19-4317, 19-4320, 19-4322, 19-4324, 19-4325 and 19-4327 and amendments thereto.

The Stormwater Appeals Board was created by the Board of County Commissioners by Resolution No. 203-2010.

The Board was established by the City of Wichita Charter Ordinance 178. Wichita City Code section 2.12.1053 et seq. set out qualifications for membership, appointment terms, organization, and duties. This Board serves in an advisory capacity.

K.S.A. 12-759 authorizes a planning commission to be designated as a board of zoning appeals under Kansas law. Therefore, the Joint Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA) was established by the Board of County Commissioners and the Wichita City Council pursuant to Resolution No. 021-2017 on February 15, 2017. This resolution abolishes all other existing boards of zoning appeals for the City of Wichita and Sedgwick County after April 30, 2017. See Sedgwick County Code Article III, § 21-46 - § 21-48.

This board was created pursuant to a settlement agreement reached as a result of a lawsuit by the Independent Living Resource Center suing the City of Wichita. County was invited by the City and the board to add members to the board and County added members pursuant to Res. 33-2007, February 7, 2007. Membership and terms were amended by Res. 58-2009 on April 1, 2009. Res. 169-2016, November 30, 2016, rescinded Res. 33-2007 and 58-2009, and re-defined BOCC appointments, appointment terms, and the purpose. (Sedgwick County Code Article VI, Division 11, § 2-311 - § 2-313).
