Community Corrections Advisory Board

The Community Corrections Advisory Board meets from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. on the second Thursday of each month at 905 N. Main, Wichita, Kansas.

This Board was appointed for the purpose of determining the feasibility of implementation of a community corrections plan for Sedgwick County.  As a comprehensive plan was deemed feasible, it shall provide a framework within which community corrections programs operating within the County can be coordinated to best serve the interests of the community.  The Board shall actively participate in the formulation of comprehensive plans for the development, implementation and operation of corrections services funded through the Community Corrections Act.  Furthermore, the SCCC Advisory Board shall make formal recommendations to the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners at least annually concerning the comprehensive plan and/or the Community Corrections Act grant request, its implementation and operation.

The board was established on May 21, 1980 by resolution #119-1980.  The board shall consist of 12 members appointed as follows:

1) The Sheriff of Sedgwick County or his designee;  2) the Chief of Police of Wichita or his designee;  3) the District Attorney of the 18th Judicial District or his designee;  4) the Administrative Judge of the 18th Judicial District or his designee;  5) an educational professional;  6) a probation officer designated by the Administrative Judge;  7) three members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners; and, 8) three members appointed by the City Council.  If possible, of the six members appointed by the Sedgwick County Board of County Commissioners and the City Council, six members shall be representative of one or more of the following:  parole office, public or private social services agencies, ex-offenders, the health care professionals and the general public.  At least two members of the board shall be minorities and no more than eight shall be of the same sex.  Term of office is two years from and after the date of appointment.
