Disposal Sites in Sedgwick County
Solid waste facilities are permitted by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) and operate under stringent federal, state, and local regulations. Sedgwick County performs weekly nspections at the transfer stations and construction and demolition (C & D) landfills.
Currently, there are two transfer stations, three C & D landfills, two compost facilities, and a household hazardous waste facility open to the public in Sedgwick County. Trash from the transfer stations goes to the Plumb Thicket Landfill in Harper County and the Red Carpet Landfill in Meno, Oklahoma.
There are more than 60 closed dumps and landfills scattered throughout Sedgwick County.
