Station
33, located at 10625 W 53rd St North, Maize, was built in 2007 and is
approximately 9,720 sq. ft. in size with four bays and covers a response
area of 112 square miles with both urban and rural areas. The station
provides fire protection to the City of Maize, Bentley, and portions of
Union Township. In addition, Station 33 provides mutual aid, when
requested, to the Colwich Volunteer Fire Department for the City of
Colwich and Union Township for those areas that are not currently
petitioned into Fire District #1.
Major businesses protected by Station 33 include: Coleman Company (Maize
Plant), KG&E Generating Station (Gordon Evans), Carlson Manufacturing
and Wichita State University (West Campus).The station houses 3 pieces of equipment: Engine
33, Squad
33, and Tender 33,
and operates on a 3-shift (platoon) rotation. The personnel operate on a
3-shift (platoon) rotation and work a 24-hour shift on and 48 hours off.
Six personnel are assigned to each shift, including 1 Captain, 1 Lieutenant,
4 Firefighters. The four firefighters share a single flex position. Flex
Personnel are assigned to stations to fill in for personnel who are on sick
leave, injury leave, funeral leave, vacation, or otherwise unable to work.
Station 33 averages 53 responses monthly within
its designated response area.
