Cover the Uninsured Week
Since the Health Summit (June 2007), many Sedgwick County citizens have been participating in the Health Access project. Individuals involved in the project come from many backgrounds including the health care industry, nonprofit sector, local government, and general interest. These participants have been meeting since October of 2007 and focusing on three main barriers to health care access:
-
Coverage: lack of health access for people who are un- or underinsured.
-
System coordination: lack of health access due to the difficulties of coordinating services between primary care clinics, hospitals and safety net clinics.
-
System navigation: lack of health access caused by people having a limited understanding of options.
Out of this group, a subgroup emerged to
work on local events for Cover the Uninsured Week (CUW), which will take place
this year from April 27 - May 3. This year marks the sixth year for CUW, which
is a national project of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The purpose of CUW
is to highlight the many uninsured Americans and move communities to action.
Visit the CUW national campaign website
for more information.
The Cover the Uninsured Week sub-group has scheduled more than 10 presentations
and hopes to add more in the coming weeks. Presentations will be given to
targeted groups. If you would like to request a presentation for a group you
belong to, call Rod Harris, Director of the Sedgwick County Center for Health
Equity, at 660-7312. You can also call Rod if you have individual questions you
would like answered about Health Access.
