Flexible Reimbursement Accounts

Flexible reimbursement accounts let you set aside pre-tax money from your paycheck to pay for planned dependent care charges and expected out-of-pocket health care expenses. The minimum annual contribution is $50 and the maximum contribution is $2,500, plus any employer contribution to health care accounts. The maximum contribution for the dependent care account is $5,000. Participation is voluntary. Remember, unused flexible account funds are not reimbursed at the end of the year.

Some of the many items eligible for coverage by flexible spending accounts include:

  • Before- and after-school care for children younger than age 13 or who are incapable of self-care
  • Blood pressure monitors
  • Breast pumps
  • Chiropractic care
  • Co-insurance
  • Co-payments
  • Eyeglasses (includes prescription sunglasses and over-the-counter reading glasses)
  • Home medical equipment
  • Laser eye surgery
  • Medical alert bracelets
  • Occupational therapy
  • Orthodontia
  • Prosthetics
  • Psychologist
  • Reading glasses
  • Speech therapy
  • Wheelchairs
  • Well-baby/well-child care
