- Sedgwick County Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer Application
What is the Medical Reserve Corps and why is it needed?
Many unaffiliated or spontaneous volunteers responded
to the events that occurred on September 11, 2001,
offering themselves to be of assistance in any way
possible. It was quickly discovered however that it was
impossible to verify the credentials of these
volunteers. Therefore many volunteers could not be
utilized in the days after the emergency.
In response to this situation, the Medical Response Corps (MRC) was founded in 2002. The MRC provides credentialing and training for a response prior to a disaster. MRC volunteers can be verified quickly and placed into needed roles whenever the need arises.
Over 600 community-based volunteer units across the country comprise the national MRC. These groups locally organize and utilize volunteers – medical professionals and others. The volunteers promote healthy living throughout the year and prepare for and respond to emergencies. In order to be a member of the Sedgwick County MRC, one does not have to be a Sedgwick County resident.
