In 2024, the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners approved changes to the solid waste fees. Commercial property owners in Sedgwick County may be able to save on future solid waste fees by merging multiple parcels into one parcel. Parcels that meet all 5 conditions below may be merged:
- Be contiguous (side-by-side)
- Have the same ownership
- Both be platted OR unplatted, and in the same subdivision if platted
- Be in the same tax unit
- Have property taxes paid
Click the links above or see below for further information regarding the last four conditions. If the parcels can be merged, appropriate documentation must be filed with the Register of Deeds Office. Please consult a title company or an attorney for questions regarding the necessary documents to file.
Note: The following information is not intended to be taken as legal advice. Consult a local title company or lawyer to help prepare and file the necessary legal documents.
Parcel Ownership
The ownership listed on each parcel must match EXACTLY. Below is an example of two property tax statements, with the ownership highlighted. The properties in these examples WOULD NOT be able to be merged right now because the first property says ABC Company and the second says The ABC Company.

Platted vs Unplatted
Parcels to be merged must both be platted or unplatted. Platted parcels must also be in the same subdivision. In the example below, the top property is not platted, while the bottom property is. These properties can not be merged in their current state. Contact a lawyer or a land surveyor for more information.

Tax Unit
The tax unit can be found at the top and the bottom of your property tax bills. In the example below, the properties are not in the same tax unit, and therefore cannot be merged.
