During the August 1, 2018 Sedgwick County Board of County Commission meeting, Commissioners approved a traffic safety improvement project to serve Campus High School located at 55th St. South and Meridian. Traffic accidents were reviewed over a two and a half year period and found 17 traffic accidents were related to the school entrances. This project is expected to reduce traffic hazards and improve overall safety in the area around Campus High School.
Commissioner O’Donnell stated, “I am thrilled this project is moving forward. During my campaign for Sedgwick County Commission District 2, this was a concern brought to me by several constituents as well as families and educators of Campus High School. My commitment to the safety and well-being of our citizens has always been a top priority and a solution to this issue has been my goal since day one as County Commissioner. I am grateful to the Haysville School District for partnering with Sedgwick County on this project.”
Improvements include left and right turn lanes on 55th St. South, as well as right turn lanes on Meridian. Total estimated cost of the project is $1.1 million to be equally shared by Haysville School District, USD 261, and Sedgwick County. Construction is planned for the summer of 2020.
