On September 11, a National Day of Service and Remembrance, Sedgwick County Fire District 1 will hold the following events in remembrance of those who lost their lives on that tragic day.
0850 Hours
- Apparatus roll out of bays, parking on the front slab where practical.
- All available Fire Department personnel will assemble at attention in front of the individual Station flagpole (or central location in front of the Station).
- When assembled, maintain silence.
0859 Hours (Time of World Trade Center South Tower Collapse)
- An Engine/Quint from each Station will sound an air horn for a 3 second count.
- All personnel will maintain one minute of complete silence.
- Personnel will lower Station flag to half-mast.
0907-0925 Hours
- Resume Regular Duties (If appropriate, apparatus can remain outside).
0925 Hours
- Apparatus roll out of bays, parking on the front slab where practical.
- All available Fire Department personnel will assemble at attention in front of the individual Station flagpole (or central location in front of the Station).
- When assembled, maintain silence.
0928 Hours (Time of World Trade Center North Tower Collapse)
- An Engine/Quint from each Station will sound an air horn for a 3 second count.
- All personnel will maintain one minute of complete silence.
- Raise flag to full staff.
- Return apparatus to inside quarters.
In addition, 12 Fire District 1 representatives will participate in the Wichita 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on September 10. Only 343 active or retired firefighters may participate, in honor of the 343 from the Fire Department of New York who lost their lives on 9/11/01. It’s hosted at the Epic Center, and climbers are assigned a name badge with the picture and name of one of the fallen 343 to carry as they climb 110 floors.
