Archived: Building permit fees to be reduced by Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department

Archived

Beginning today, city-county building permit fees are reduced by 10 percent.

Sedgwick County and City of Wichita elected officials recently voted to grant the Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department Director, Chris Labrum, the authority to implement the reduction.

This means that a 2,500-finished-square-foot residence would save $95 on building permit fees (generally $950). A one million dollar commercial building would save $632.80 on building permit fees (generally $6,328).

“We hope that this fee reduction will not only spur additional development, but help pass along those savings to businesses and consumers in our region.” said Wichita Mayor Jeff Longwell. “We find that our low cost of living and doing business are becoming more and more attractive to businesses. By making it more affordable to live, work and play in Wichita, we aim to make our community more vibrant and economically diverse.”

The fee reduction only applies to building permits; it does not include trades, special use permits, or plan review fees.

“This is a great opportunity for our residents and businesses to take advantage of the reduced fees,” said County Commission Chairman David Dennis. “This is another way local government can encourage folks to choose our community to live, work, play, and pray.”
