(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Commissioners voted today to appoint Michael D. Pepoon as County Counselor. Pepoon has been serving as Interim County Counselor since late 2018. Previous to that appointment, Pepoon served as general counsel for the Kansas Association of Counties on an interim basis; spent one year as Deputy City Attorney for the City of Wichita; and worked in the Sedgwick County Counselor’s Office for 31 years, serving various functions from Deputy County Counselor and Sedgwick County Lobbyist from 2001-2006.
Pepoon is a graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English and received his Juris doctor from the University of Kansas. During his tenure with Sedgwick County, Pepoon litigated cases under both the Kansas Open Meetings Act (KOMA) and the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) and has advised County elected officials and department heads on a variety of municipal law issues for more than 35 years.
