(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Work will begin Monday, Nov. 18, 2024, to improve travel safety on Ridge Road from 53rd St. North to 69th. Two phases of construction will widen the shoulders of Ridge Road and lessen the slope of the ditches. The project is expected to last until late spring 2025, and drivers need to expect detours and delays and plan accordingly.
The first phase of work starting Nov. 18 will affect Ridge Road from 61st St. North to 69th. During construction work hours from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday, a pilot car and flaggers will lead a single lane of traffic through the work zone, alternating directions of travel. When construction is not active, Ridge Road will be open to two-way traffic with reduced speeds and lane widths.
“Road work is always an inconvenience to drivers, and we appreciate their patience,” said County Engineer Lynn Packer, Director of Sedgwick County Public Works. “Once this project is done, Ridge Road will have much wider, paved shoulders and flatter slopes on the ditches, making it easier and safer for a car to pull over if needed.”
