Due to the recent record rainfall, the Army Corps of Engineers is releasing a controlled amount of water from Cheney Reservoir to maintain the safety of the dam. The released water will not exceed river banks, according to the Army Corps. There is no expected damage or flooding downstream from the water surcharge operations, which are expected to last through the weekend.
Areas that may be affected include Cheney, Clearwater and surrounding unincorporated Sedgwick County area.
