(Sedgwick County, Kan.) - EMS CREW OF THE YEAR
This year, Major Kevin Lanterman, Captain Caitlin Edison, Captain Cole Mitchell, EMT Zach Marrs, and Paramedic Sarah Cindric were recognized as EMS Crew of the Year by Wesley Healthcare.
In early March, off-duty Major Kevin Lanterman came across an individual in distress. He immediately responded to the patient and notified, off-duty Captain Caitlin Edison of the patient in distress. She began assisting Major Lanterman until on duty crews arrived on scene. Upon arrival, Captain Cole Mitchell, EMT Zach Marrs, and Paramedic Sarah Cindric took over and continued care of the patient.
ICT-1 Speakers at National Co-Responder Conference
This week, the ICT-1 team were invited to speak at the 2nd Annual National Co-Responder Conference held in Olathe, KS. Two hundred eighty first responders and mental health professionals from 22 states attended the conference. Co-Response programs are teams similar to ICT-1, which utilize a model of mental health professionals paired with first responders, such as police, fire, and EMS, to respond to mental health issues in the community. “It was an honor to share with the rest of the nation the innovative work that ICT-1 is doing, serving our most vulnerable populations in the most effective ways we can,” said Malachi Winters, EMS program manager. Participants from EMS, COMCARE, and Wichita Police Department participated at this national gathering of Co-Response programs and provided a presentation about the ICT-1 program in Wichita/Sedgwick County. Additionally, ICT-1 will be connecting with the newly formed International Co-Responder Alliance. This professional organization will allow for collaboration and data sharing with similar programs around the country and internationally.
EMS Director speaks at Regional Meeting of Emergency Physicians
Additionally this week, Sedgwick County EMS Director Dr. John Gallagher attended the EMerald Coast Conference and presented to the American College of Emergency Physicians. His presentation was part of a panel of EMS experts that tackled issues of staffing, scope of practice, training, and quality assurance.
