(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – The 2024 General Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 5, with 107 polling locations in Sedgwick County open from 6 a.m. - 7 p.m. Once the polls close, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will block off streets around the Historic Courthouse, 510 N. Main St., to facilitate the secure and efficient transfer of marked ballots and other polling place supplies to the Sedgwick County Election Office for processing. From 7-9 p.m., the following streets will be closed to traffic, and only election workers and authorized helpers will be allowed access:
- Market Street from Central Avenue to Pine Street
- Main Street from Pine Street to Central Avenue
- Elm Street from Broadway Street through Main Street
How many votes have been cast so far?
Through Thursday, Oct. 31, 70,225 registered voters have cast early ballots so far at the advance voting locations available in Sedgwick County. The Election Office mailed 34,828 advance ballots to voters who applied to vote by mail. So far, 22,994 ballots have been returned. Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Nov. 5, 2024.
Election Day Media Coverage
Please be mindful not to disrupt citizens in the process of voting. If you want to get video inside a polling location, please check in with the Supervising Judge dedicated to each site. No voting will take place at the Election Office on Election Day.
Sedgwick County Election Commissioner Laura Rainwater will be available for media interviews at the following times & election locations:
- 6:30 a.m.: Woodland United Methodist Church, 1100 W. 15th N., Wichita
- 11 a.m.: Eastminster Presbyterian Church, 1958 N. Webb Rd., Wichita
- 3 p.m.: Linwood Recreation Center, 1901 S. Kansas Ave., Wichita

- Sedgwick County Extension Office, 7001 W. 21st St., Wichita
- Grace Presbyterian Church - 5002 E. Douglas Ave., Wichita
- Machinist Union Building, 3830 S. Meridian, Wichita
- Reformation Lutheran Church, 7601 E. 13th St N., Wichita
Election Night Media Coverage
An Election Office collaboration room will be available from 6:30 - 10 p.m. on the third floor of the Sedgwick County Historic Courthouse, 510 N. Main St., for the media to gather to await results. Please be advised that media arriving after 7 p.m. will have to show credentials to law enforcement blocking traffic to be allowed into the Historic Courthouse. Once unofficial voting results are in, Laura Rainwater will give a brief wrap-up statement in the media room.

When all votes from Election Day polling places have been returned, tabulated and reported to the Secretary of State’s Office, the Election Office will post the unofficial results from Sedgwick County on the Election Office website: November 5, 2024 2024 General Election Election | Sedgwick County, Kansas. The Election Office will then close until 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Election Office staff will be unable to respond to media requests during that time.
What ballots are left to count after Election Day?
Provisional ballots will be reviewed and counted at the canvass for the election, which begins Thursday, Nov. 14, at 9 a.m. at the Election Office. The results will be certified when the canvass reconvenes Monday, Nov. 18, at 3 p.m. Media and the public are welcome to attend the canvass. Official final results will be released after the canvass.
