(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Sedgwick County Emergency Management is sponsoring an operations-based, full-scale exercise with area partners from 8 to 11 a.m., Thursday, July 18. Public partners include Sedgwick County Fire District 1, Sedgwick County EMS, Sedgwick County Public Works, Wichita Fire Department, Wichita Police Department, and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. Exercise play will include emergency response and participant involvement to simulate a hazardous chemical release in Wichita, near 13th Street and Broadway. Note: there may be a large amount of vehicles in the area.
This exercise will provide participants with an opportunity to assess capabilities, plans, policies, and procedures. It will focus on decision-making, coordination, and integration with other organizations during a hazmat event. The expected outcome of the drill is to improve communication, interagency coordination, incident response, and recovery.
Emergency Management’s goal is to help the community prepare for, mitigate, and recover from potential disasters.
