Sedgwick County officials on Tuesday were made aware of an attempt to use a false County email address to contact vendors and obtain financial information. In the emails, vendors were asked to provide information on past financial transactions.
County officials said no sensitive information was compromised and no financial transactions were completed.
“The emails were generated by a malicious actor who is unassociated with Sedgwick County,” Information Technology Infrastructure Director Joe Currier said.
Known as “spoofing,” the emails were made to look as though they originated from an official Sedgwick County account.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department has been informed about the false emails.
