At its scheduled meeting on Wednesday, the Sedgwick County Board of Commissioners voted to appoint Doug Williams as the Interim Chief for Sedgwick County Fire District 1, effective December 23.
Williams, currently the Division Chief of Operations for Fire District 1, will take over for retiring Fire Chief Tavis D. Leake, whose last day of active duty is Friday, December 21.
Williams is a veteran of Sedgwick County Fire District 1. His career began in 1988, and he has served as a Division Chief of Operations for the past several years. During his career, Williams has also served as the Chief of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department, and as the Greenwood County Emergency Management Director.
Sedgwick County Fire District 1 provides fire protection and emergency medical service response for approximately 631 square miles of Sedgwick County, as well as the cities of Bel Aire, Park City and Haysville.
