At its special meeting this morning, the Governing Body of Fire District 1 voted to appoint Doug Williams as Fire Chief for Sedgwick County Fire District 1, effective today. 

Williams has served as Interim Chief since December 23, 2018. He succeeds Fire Chief Tavis D. Leake, who retired on December 21.

His career began in 1988, and he has served as a Division Chief of Operations for the past several years. During his tenure, Williams has also served as the Chief of the Eureka Volunteer Fire Department and as the Greenwood County Emergency Management Director. Over a span of 30 years, Chief Williams has served in the capacity of Firefighter, Fire Lieutenant, Fire Captain, Fire Division Chief, and Interim Fire Chief. Williams is a graduate of the National Fire Academy, where he completed his Executive Fire Officer and Chief Fire Officer certification. 

Sedgwick County Fire District 1 provides fire protection and emergency medical service response for approximately 631 square miles of Sedgwick County, as well as several cities including Bel Aire, Park City, Goddard, and Haysville.
