Sedgwick County Reminders for Independence Day 2024

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) –With fireworks sales starting Thursday, June 27, Sedgwick County Fire District #1 (SCFD #1) reminds residents that each city determines its own rules when fireworks can be discharged and what kinds are allowed. For example, some aerial fireworks that are legal in the City of Maize are NOT allowed in other cities in Sedgwick County. Residents are encouraged to buy fireworks where they plan to discharge them. Beginning Sunday, June 30, residents can report nuisances, like fireworks, parties and excess noise, by calling the Sedgwick County Emergency Communications’ non-emergency phone line at 316-290-1011 from 6 p.m. - 3 a.m. through Saturday, July 6. This line is designed to take calls that do not involve a threat to life or property and allows 9-1-1 dispatchers to focus on actual emergencies.

In observance of Independence Day, Sedgwick County Government offices will be closed Thursday, July 4. Emergency services are always available by dialing or texting 9-1-1.
