Sedgwick County Responds to the Global Technology Disruption

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) - Sedgwick County is assessing the impact of the global technology disruption on its 40+ departments and getting computer systems back online as needed. Overnight, our Public Safety teams - including Emergency Communications, Sheriff’s Office, EMS and Fire District 1- were always able to respond to calls and dispatch crews using phones and radio. As of this morning, the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) and 9-1-1 computer workstations are operational again.

Sedgwick County’s three tag offices are closed indefinitely because of computer problems caused by this outage. Updates on reopening these offices will be posted to Sedgwick County’s social media platforms. The Treasurer’s Office on the first floor of the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway, is open, but employees are only able to take payments in cash or check for printed tax bills that customers bring with them. A handwritten receipt will be provided until computer systems are back online.

The Metropolitan Area Building and Construction Department (MABCD) cannot access its files or issue new permits. MABCD will also reschedule inspections as needed until its systems are back online.

Sedgwick County is deploying as many resources as possible to minimize the impact and to stabilize operations. Sedgwick County will continue to update the media and public as we learn more about the impact of this outage. Staff will brief Commissioners at the regularly scheduled Agenda Review meeting at 10 a.m. in the 6th floor conference room at the Ruffin Building, 100 N. Broadway.
