Sedgwick County will begin burning the tree debris pile at 63 rd Street and Meridian (Big Ditch) on Monday, Oct. 7, after drought and subsequent heavy rains delayed the burning of debris.

Sedgwick County Public Works will only begin burning the pile if the wind is out of the south, as homes are located to the south of the pile. The pile will burn 24 hours a day for a week. Public Works will man the site at all times.

This past summer, many residents throughout Sedgwick County were affected by strong winds, resulting in large amounts of tree and brush debris. To assist residents with cleanup Sedgwick County set up the tree debris burn site. The site was available for Sedgwick County residents, cities, townships and businesses, free of charge. Residents brought more than 10,000 truck and trailer loads to the site.
