(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – Sedgwick County has named Steven Stonehouse as the permanent Director for the Sedgwick County Department of Corrections (SCDOC). Stonehouse is an experienced and well-respected Community Corrections leader. He has served with SCDOC for 24 years. Stonehouse has served as a Deputy Director for the department since 2013.
“I know that Steve cares about people and successful outcomes for people, including clients and their families and the dedicated and hard-working Community Corrections employees. I am confident he will continue working with community partners in an effort to provide the best opportunities for positive behavior change and client success,” said Rusty Leeds, Assistant County Manager.
Stonehouse’s previous roles within the department include Intensive Supervision Officer II, Intensive Supervision Officer III, and the Administrator of Juvenile Field Services. Before joining Sedgwick County, he had four years of work experience with New Horizons and Kansas S.R.S. (now known as DCF).

SCDOC currently faces unique challenges, but with our dedicated staff and the support of leadership and the Board of County Commissioners, I am confident we will rebuild our workforce,” said Steven Stonehouse, Director of Corrections.
Stonehouse has a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a master’s degree in Public Administration. He currently serves on the Juvenile Justice Oversight Committee as the Attorney General’s appointment representing juvenile detention facilities, is the Juvenile Detention Alternatives coordinator for Sedgwick County, and is a member of the Crossover Youth Practice model committee in Sedgwick County.
