(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – On August 1, a fire occurred at 9849 S. Laura, Haysville, Kansas in which a Wichita Fire Department Firefighter perished. Fire Investigators from the Sedgwick County Fire District, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Kansas State Fire Marshal’s Office and Wichita Fire Department, conducted a scene investigation and determined the fire to be accidental. The fire started in the area of the kitchen stove, spreading throughout the structure and into the attic.

An autopsy was conducted by the Regional Forensic Science Center this morning and the results are pending Carbon Monoxide and toxicology testing. It will take several weeks to get the toxicology testing results back.

Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Firefighter Ty Voth’s family and friends and with the Wichita Fire Department. No further information will be provided by the Sedgwick County Fire District concerning this matter.
