Updated COVID-19 Vaccines to Replace 2023-2024 Formulas

(Sedgwick County, Kan.) – The 2024-2025 Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines have received federal and state approval and will be available in mid-September.

Effective immediately, the 2023-2024 COVID-19 vaccines are no longer approved for use. A vaccine locator lookup tool will be added to www.vaccines.gov when the 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccines become widely available.

The updated vaccines will target the current COVID-19 variants and protect people from severe illness, hospitalization and death. Recent COVID-19 hospitalizations and positive tests from emergency room visits in Sedgwick County have increased since early June and may continue through September, based on previous years’ trends.

Everyone 6 months of age and older can receive the updated COVID-19 vaccines at the same time as the flu vaccine. “With COVID-19 cases rising and flu expected to hit in October or November, now is a good time for people to talk to their healthcare provider about getting both vaccines during the same visit,” said Sedgwick County Health Department (SCHD) Director Adrienne Byrne.

Doses of flu and COVID-19 vaccine should be available at SCHD by the first week of October. SCHD will provide both vaccines to children 6 months through 18 years old and also to uninsured adults. Contact Immunizations@sedgwick.gov if you have questions. When vaccines are available, call the SCHD Clinic at (316) 660-7300 to set up an appointment.
