The Sedgwick County Health Department has been informed by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment that vaccines transferred to the Sedgwick County Health Department from an external entity were stored outside of the recommended guidelines. The vaccines that may have been affected include Dtap, Polio, Pediarix, (combination vaccine of Hepatitis B, Polio, and Dtap), Pentacel (combination vaccine of Dtap, HIB, and Polio), Meningitis, Rotavirus, HPV, and Hepatitis B and were administered between June 13 and August 26, 2013.

The Sedgwick County Health Department wants to guarantee the best protection against vaccine preventable diseases. The effectiveness of some of the immunizations given during this time period cannot be guaranteed. The 276 clients who received these vaccines will receive a letter requesting that they return to the Sedgwick County Health Department to repeat their immunizations free of charge. Immunizations affected by the improper storage were not harmful and there is no harm in repeating the vaccinations.
