Q&A:
- What is the MFEI?
- MFEI is the new functional assessment that KDADS (Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services) has decided will replace the BASIS assessment. This new tool will be used to determine eligibility for the IDD (Intellectual/Developmental Disability) waiver.
- When will the MFEI start?
- Right now, MFEI is scheduled to start being used instead of the BASIS on March 1, 2025. This date could change.
- How long is the MFEI?
- The MFEI is significantly longer than the BASIS assessment. The assessment meetings will be scheduled for 2 hours instead of 1 hour.
- Will the MFEI be in person or virtual meeting?
- The meetings will be scheduled virtually to try to assist families, individuals, and providers to be able to come in and out of the meeting and make themselves as comfortable as possible for the duration of the meeting. If the individual or guardian would prefer an in-person meeting, please alert your assessor or case manager to this wish, and we can schedule/complete these in person.
- What are the MFEI questions like?
- There are many similar questions on the MFEI as there was on the BASIS, however there will be many more questions. Some questions will gather more information on a person’s mental health concerns, their needs surrounding crisis situations, the impact their disability has on their life, and on the level and amount of supports needed to keep them safe.
- What kind of documentation will be required?
- The document requirements will change from the BASIS to the MFEI. Behavior data will no longer need to be submitted, however multiple different medical documents will be needed. We will get this information out to all stakeholders as soon as the full scope of required documentation is known.
