NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION QUESTION

TO ALL THE QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF HAYSVILLE, KANSAS:

Notice is hereby given by the Governing Body of the City of Haysville, Kansas and the County Election Officer of Sedgwick County, Kansas, that there will be a special question election in the City of Haysville, Kansas on the 7th day of May, 2024, for the purpose of voting on the question of levying a city retailers’ sales tax in the amount of one percent (1.0%) on retail sales consummated within the City of Haysville, Kansas, of which ten percent (10.00%) will be used to reduce property taxes, fifty percent (50.00%) will be used to fund a local street program, and forty percent (40.00%) will be used to fund a park & recreation improvement program, within the city of Haysville, Sedgwick County, Kansas, with the collection of such sales tax to commence on July 1, 2024, or as soon thereafter as permitted by law; all pursuant to the provisions of K.S.A. 12-187 et. seq., as amended. Such tax shall be collected by the State Department of Revenue, and the revenue therefrom returned to the City of Haysville, Kansas.

Shall a retailers’ sales tax in the amount of one percent (1.00%) be levied in the City of Haysville, Kansas, to take effect July 1, 2024, or as soon thereafter as such tax may be levied by the Kansas Department of Revenue, with ten percent (10.00%) of the revenue from such tax used to Reduce Property Taxes, fifty percent (50.00%) to fund a Local Street Program, and forty percent (40.00%) to fund a Park & Recreation Improvement Program; all pursuant to K.S.A 12-187, et seq., as amended?

Notice is further given that the polling place for residents of the Sedgwick County portion of the City of Haysville will be opened at 6:00 a.m. and closed at 7:00 p.m. on Election Day at:

  • Haysville Community Library, 210 Hays Ave, Haysville, KS

Registered voters are eligible to vote by mailed advance voting ballot upon application to the County Election Officer.

Early voting is available at the Sedgwick County Election Office during regular business hours, beginning April 29, 2024. Early voting will end at noon on May 6, 2024.
