Stay alert for changes in the situation. Right now there are few local cases of mpox, but that could change quickly.

Consider using a condom if sex involves anyone whose recent history you don't know. Condoms do not prevent mpox transmission but may reduce the likelihood of developing painful sores on or around the genitals.

Before having sex or close physical contact, check yourself and your partner over for rashes or bumps. If you find a rash, postpone having physical contact until you've seen a healthcare provider.
