Mpox spreads through close physical contact (hugging, cuddling), by sharing personal items (bedding, towels), or through respiratory droplets (kissing, coughing, sneezing). Mpox is also spread through sex, including oral sex.
A person with mpox can spread it to others from the time symptoms start until the rash has fully healed and a fresh layer of skin has formed. Scientists are still researching whether the virus can be spread when someone has no symptoms.
