  • Breastfeeding is associated with a reduced risk of breast and ovarian cancers and faster recovery from childbirth.
  • In Kansas, the majority of mothers initiate breastfeeding, but only half are still breastfeeding when their child is 6 months old.

The WIC program supports and educates women on the importance of providing breast milk to their infants for the first six months of the child’s life. 

To encourage breastfeeding, Sedgwick County Health Department offers education and support on breastfeeding and infant nutrition at no cost to all new parents, regardless of family income:

Free Interactive Breastfeeding Zoom Classes
Open to the public. 

  • Class is held on Zoom, from noon to 1 p.m. on the second Wednesday of each month. Learn about breastmilk, get tips on feeding and prepare to return to work while breastfeeding. 
  • Spanish classes are held in-person at the Clifton WIC location at 1131 S. Clifton, Suite A, from noon to 1 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month.
