On January 23, 2021, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Recruit Deputy was arrested by the Wichita Police Department following a response to an active disturbance in east Wichita. Recruit Deputy Brandon Johnson was booked for Interference with Law Enforcement. Recruit Deputy Johnson, has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office for approximately four months. 

The specific allegation is KSA 21-5904(a)(2): concealing, destroying or materially altering evidence with the intent to prevent or hinder the apprehension or prosecution of any person.

In addition to the criminal case, an investigation is also being conducted by the Professional Standards Unit of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy was placed on Administrative Leave.
