On July 6th, 2020, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Detention Deputy was arrested by the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office for 8 counts unlawful sexual relations with an inmate. The Kansas State Statute reads as follows: KS 21-5512 (a) “Unlawful sexual relations is engaging in consensual sexual intercourse, lewd fondling or toughing, or sodomy with a person who is not married to the offender if: (3) the offender is a law enforcement officer, an employee of a jail, or the employee of a contractor who is under contract to provide services in a jail and the person with whom the offender is engaging in consensual sexual intercourse, lewd fondling or touching, or sodomy is a person 16 years of age or older who is confined to such jail.” 

There are two victims in this case that are currently housed in the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility. The time frame is from April 23rd to June 1st. An inmate reported an incident to us on June 25, 2020. The deputy was immediately placed on leave. During the course of the investigation it was discovered a second inmate had also been a victim of unwarranted advances. The specific allegations are kissing and fondling. 

The deputy, Timothy Baskerville, has been employed by the Sheriff’s Office for 17 months. 

In addition to the criminal case, an investigation is also being conducted by the Professional Standards Unit of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.
