At approximately 4:57 P.M. on May 11, 2024, law enforcement officers were dispatched to a call involving a weapon at Wal-Mart, 18631 W. Kellogg, Goddard KS. When law enforcement arrived they located an 18-year-old male in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound, in the Wal-Mart parking lot. The male was transported to the hospital in serious condition. He has since been upgraded to stable condition.  

Suspect Ruben Contreras, 47-year-old male of Wichita, remained on the scene when law enforcement arrived and was taken into custody. Contreras was transported to Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Investigation to be interviewed. He was later booked into Sedgwick County Detention Facility for attempted 2^nd degree murder.

This case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office for review of charges.
