Sedgwick County teen drivers may notice heightened traffic enforcement from Monday, February 25, 2019 through Friday, March 08, 2019 around their high schools. Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputies will be joining law enforcement officers throughout the tristate area in an effort to reduce disabling injuries and deaths due to speed, non-restraint use, and distracted driving.

Law enforcement officers will be on the roadways in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma to aggressively enforce traffic laws for teen drivers. They will be especially vigilant in finding drivers and occupants who are not wearing their seatbelts. Officers will issue citations to any individual who refuses to obey the traffic laws, whether it is for speeding, texting, or failing to buckle up.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15-18 years old) in the United States –ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence. Please remind teens to slow down, put the phone away of turn it off, and always buckle up.

This safety effort is part of the SAFE (Seatbelts Are For Everyone) driving campaign. This safety effort will be conducted during the normal course of duty and is not supported by any grant.
