On September 15, 2023, at approximately 0600 hours, an inmate, who repeatedly engaged in self-injurious behavior and refused to cooperate with medical care, passed away. The inmate had been hospitalized a total of 18 times since his arrest.
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Investigations Division and the Kansas Bureau of Investigations (K.B.I.) were contacted. The deceased inmate was transported to the Sedgwick County Coroner’s Office.
The inmates’ family has been notified.
The inmate had been in the custody of the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office since August 15, 2021, on felony charges: Murder in the 2nd Degree, Aggravated Assault, Fugitive from Justice and a hold for Immigration.
