The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is proud to announce the release of three new Patrol vehicles sporting a unique design originally established by the Sheriff’s Office in the early 1990’s.

This design was introduced in 1993 under Sheriff Mike Hill, and it was affectionately called “Shamu” by our deputies. The design won a national award, and every marked Patrol vehicle wore the Shamu paint scheme until the current design was implemented by Sheriff Robert Hinshaw in late 2009.

The Shamu design has always been a source of pride for the deputies who drove those vehicles, so late last year a proposal was sent in to outfit three of our new Dodge Durangos with a “throw-back” design. Sheriff Jeff Easter authorized the proposal, and the first vehicle is entering the Fleet this week with one of our Community Liaison deputies.

We would like to thank Sedgwick County Fleet Management for helping us find the old decal package. We would also like to thank our partners at EgraF-X who were able to use the old decals to make new ones. They “wrapped” the front of the new vehicles and applied the graphics to complete the Shamu design.

The new vehicle can be made available this week if you would like to get your own photos. We have included a few pictures below including one of the old fleet with the original design.
