WICHITA, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will celebrate the graduation of Detention Academy Class 6 during a commencement ceremony at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, at Evangel Assembly of God Church, 11444 W. 21st St. N., Wichita.

The ceremony will recognize nine new deputies who have completed seven weeks of intensive basic academy training. The training focused on topics including interpersonal communication, policies and procedures, legal issues, computer systems, and defensive tactics. Sheriff Jeff Easter will welcome the graduates to the department, marking the beginning of their careers as detention deputies. Following graduation, the recruits will begin six weeks of field training, working alongside veteran deputies in the detention facility.

A reception for the graduates, their families, friends, and honored guests will follow the ceremony.
