SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the discovery of skeletal remains in the Oaklawn area Monday evening.

Deputies were called to the 4800 block of South Clifton at about 6:10 p.m. on Dec. 16, 2024, after receiving reports of remains found beneath a tree behind a closed business. The advanced decomposition of the body prevented immediate identification, including an approximate age or gender.

Detectives were joined at the scene by the Sedgwick County Coroner and an anthropologist to assess the discovery. The remains were transported to the Regional Forensic Science Center, to determine the identity of the individual.

Detectives are reviewing missing persons reports from the region and continuing to collaborate with the forensic science center.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to contact the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division at (316) 660-5300.

The investigation is ongoing, and updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
