SEDGWICK COUNTY, Kan. — Beginning Dec. 26 and continuing through Jan. 2, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office will join law enforcement agencies across the state, including the Kansas Highway Patrol, in the New Year’s Taking Down DUI traffic enforcement campaign.

The New Year’s holiday consistently ranks among the most dangerous times of the year for crashes involving impaired drivers. To address this, law enforcement officers will be out in greater numbers, working to remove impaired drivers from the road and ensure a safe holiday for all.

The Sheriff’s Office urges drivers to leave their vehicles at home if they plan to consume alcohol or other impairing substances. Instead, use a designated driver, rideshare, or other transportation options to get home safely. Party hosts are encouraged to help their guests plan and ensure everyone has a sober ride home.

Anyone who observes a driver they believe to be impaired is encouraged to call 911 immediately. Reporting a suspected impaired driver could save a life.
