New Sheriff Patrol Vehicle Design
After nearly 17 years, the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s office
is changing the paint scheme of its fleet of patrol vehicles. The award winning
design dubbed, “Shamu” by the deputies, will be replaced through attrition with
the new design beginning in November 2009.
Sheriff’s Office is looking for exceptional men and women for volunteer service in the Sheriff’s Reserve
Have you ever thought you would like to help people as a law enforcement officer? If so, Sedgwick County Sheriff Robert Hinshaw is looking for men and women with a strong commitment to community service to become a part of the Sheriff’s Reserve. If you are 21 years of age or older, are in good physical condition and have no criminal background, you may qualify for appointment to this exceptional volunteer organization which has been serving Sedgwick County citizens since 1957. To apply for the Sheriff’s Reserve, please pick up an application packet at the Wichita/Sedgwick County Law Enforcement Training Center located at 37th Street North and Meridian. Crisis Intervention Team
The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department, Wichita Police Department, Kansas
Department of Corrections and local mental health agencies have teamed up to
provide more effective public safety services to individuals who suffer from
mental illnesses with the creation of the Crisis Intervention Team.
The goal of the Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is to supplement alternative
incarceration programs by learning to identify and redirect persons with mental
illnesses away from the jail system and toward available resources.
The 40-hour CIT training includes education about common disorders, substance
misuse and abuse, suicide, and negotiating in a crisis situation.
Criminal Justice Comprehensive Master Plan for Sedgwick County
On November 30, 2005 the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners was presented the Comprehensive Criminal Justice Master Plan. This plan includes three phases: Design Expansion of the Sedgwick County Jail, Implementation of Alternatives and provide additional details, and Explore booking and housing fees.
Underage Drinking Laws and Driver's Licenses
Did you know...
A parent or guardian, who knowingly permits consumption of alcoholic or cereal malt beverages by persons under the age of 18 on their property, will be charged with a class B person misdemeanor, for which the minimum fine is $200.00.
Young people under the age of 21 who violate Kansas’ Minor in Possession Law multiple times will now find themselves with a suspended drivers license for 90 days (second offense) or one year (third and subsequent offenses). The first conviction results in a 30-day suspension.
