Jim Howell was elected to
the Board of Sedgwick County Commissioners
in 2014 and began his first term
as the Fifth District commissioner
in January 2015.
Commissioner Howell has a bachelors of science degree in Organizational
Management & Leadership from Friends University, a bachelors of science
degree in Industrial Technology from Southern Illinois University
College of Engineering and an associates of science degree in Avionics
Systems Technology from the College of the Air Force.
Some of Commissioner Howell's priorities include government transparency and
accountability. He believes government should include incentives to
encourage employees and agencies to develop efficiency and effectiveness.
Prior to his election to the commission, Commissioner Howell served in
the Kansas House of Representatives from 2011 to 2014. He
served in the U.S. Air Force.
Commissioner Howell is active in the community and serves as a Sunday School
Teacher and is a long term Trustee of Calvary Baptist Church.
While service as a Kansas State Representative, Commissioner Howell was the
Chair of the South-Central Legislative Delegation and member of the Government
Efficiency Committee, House Education Committee, General Government Budget
Committee, Federal & State Affairs Committee and Judiciary Committee.
